This is the Amplan Lab Notebook: notes on how we design battery packs and why our software works the way it does.
We build software that takes product requirements (flight minutes, range, peak power, a size and weight envelope) and produces a checked pack design, and we build the packs. A few questions come up on almost every project: why size from mission requirements instead of amp-hours, what a honeycomb layout gains over a rectangular one, and why a collector with a misplaced slot should never reach the laser cutter.
We will write those up here, with the math and the rules our software checks. When we get something wrong, we will correct it.
